Superior Chess Academy is not the right choice for every family, and we would rather say so here than discover it after you have paid. We are not for you if you need a guaranteed rating gain or a promised title — no honest academy can offer that, and we refuse to pretend. We are not for you if you want in-person, offline coaching only; every class we teach is live and online, and that will not change. We are not for you if your child will not practise between classes, because coaching without practice is a slow walk nowhere and it wastes your money. If none of that describes you, read on: this page also describes exactly who thrives here — families who want structured live teaching, honest feedback, and a child who genuinely enjoys the game.
If you need a guaranteed rating or title, we are not for you
Some parents come to us with a number in mind: a rating their child must reach by a certain month, or a title they expect the academy to deliver. We understand the ambition. But a rating is not a product we can hand over; it is the result of the student's work across many games, and it moves up and down with form, nerves, and luck on tournament day. Any academy that guarantees you a number is selling you a feeling, not a result — and when the number does not arrive, the disappointment lands on your child. We will give your child structured coaching, FIDE-rated coaches, homework, and honest progress notes. We will tell you when they are improving and when they are stuck. What we will never do is promise the number in advance. If a guaranteed outcome is a condition of enrolment for your family, we are genuinely the wrong academy, and you should choose one whose promises you believe. Our page on what we never do says the same thing in more detail.
If you want offline, in-person coaching only, we are not for you
Every class at Superior Chess Academy is taught live online. There is no physical classroom, no in-person option, and no plan to add one. Online coaching is not a compromise version of our teaching — it is the teaching: shared live boards, real-time puzzles, coaches who demonstrate ideas visually on the screen. For many families this is better than offline, because there is no travel and the child learns in a familiar environment. But if your family has decided that only a coach physically sitting across the board will do, we respect that completely — and we are not the academy for you. A local club or an in-person tutor will serve you better, and we mean that sincerely. For everyone else, the chess classes for kids page shows how the online format is structured by age.
If your child will not practise between classes, we are not for you
Here is the uncomfortable truth of chess coaching: one or two classes a week cannot do the job alone. Between lessons, the student needs to play games, solve puzzles, and sit with the homework the coach assigns. That is where the patterns sink in and where the rating, eventually, follows. If your child will not touch a board between classes — not because they are busy for a week, but as a settled habit — then coaching becomes an expensive way to tread water, and we would rather not take your money for it. We say this with warmth, not judgment: some children are not ready for structured chess yet, and that is fine. They may be ready later. But enrolling a child who will not practise helps nobody — not the child, not the parent, not the coach. The free puzzle trainer on our site is actually a good test: if your child enjoys solving a few puzzles a day on their own, that is a promising sign.
Who IS a good fit
So who thrives here? Families who want their child taught properly — live, structured lessons with FIDE-rated coaches, small enough classes that the coach knows your child's game, and honest feedback on WhatsApp about how things are going. Parents who understand that progress takes practice and are willing to make space for it at home. Children who enjoy chess, or who might enjoy it once someone teaches them well — curiosity counts for more than talent at the start. Adults learning from scratch are welcome too; the same honesty applies. If that sounds like your family, the free trial chess class is the natural next step: a real lesson, no payment, no pressure, and a coach you can watch teach. Tell us the student's age, country and current level on WhatsApp at +91 84015 33777.
