Private Chess Coaching (1:1)

The fastest way to improve: a coach's full attention, a plan built around the student, and a pace set entirely by them. Live 1:1 chess coaching online for children, teens and adults.

In a group, the coach's attention is shared. In 1:1 private coaching, every minute is about one student: their level, their gaps, their goals, their pace. It is the most effective format in chess teaching — and the right choice whenever the student needs the plan to fit them, not the other way round.

Who benefits most from 1:1 coaching

How 1:1 lessons work

Each student gets a personal training plan built after an assessment in the trial class. Lessons typically combine teaching, guided practice, puzzle work targeted at the student's weaknesses, and review of the student's own games. Between lessons, the coach sets assignments — puzzles, study material, practice games — matched to the plan. Progress is reviewed regularly and the plan is adjusted: what is working continues, what is not gets changed.

What the first month looks like

The first 1:1 session is an assessment: the coach watches the student play, solves puzzles with them, and maps strengths and gaps. From that, a written training plan takes shape — what to work on, in what order, and how progress will be measured. The following weeks put the plan into action, and at the end of the first month the coach reviews what has moved and adjusts. Students always know what they are working on and why.

What makes it different from group classes

Pace is the biggest difference. A group moves at the group's pace; 1:1 moves at the student's pace — faster through what is easy, slower through what is hard. Questions never wait, mistakes are caught immediately, and every lesson builds directly on the last. For students who are serious about improvement, or who simply learn better with undivided attention, the difference is substantial.

Start with a free trial class

The best way to understand how the coaching works is to experience it. A free trial class lets the student meet the coach, join a real lesson, and see the teaching style first-hand — with no obligation. After the trial, the coach shares honest feedback on the student's level and which format would suit them best.

Frequently asked questions

Is 1:1 coaching worth it compared to group classes?

It depends on the student. 1:1 gives the fastest progress per hour because everything is personalised — ideal for specific goals, uneven skills, or students who need flexibility. Group classes offer peer learning at a lower commitment. The trial helps you decide honestly.

What ages is 1:1 coaching suitable for?

All ages from 5 upwards. It is especially valuable for young children (5–7), who benefit from a fully flexible pace, and for competitive juniors and adults with specific targets.

How are 1:1 lessons scheduled?

Scheduling is arranged directly to suit the student, including options outside standard batch times. Exact slots and fees are shared on WhatsApp when you enquire.

Can we switch formats later?

Yes — many students start 1:1 and move to group once foundations are solid, or vice versa. The coach will advise when a switch makes sense.
