How to Choose the Best Chess Academy for Your Child: 7 Questions (Plus an A-Z List)

Type “best chess academy in India” into Google and you get a dozen ranked lists — most written by the academy ranked first. Rankings sell; they rarely inform. Here are seven questions that actually separate good academies from good marketing, plus an alphabetical directory of eleven online chess academies in India so you can compare them yourself.

Question 1

1. Can you verify the coaches’ credentials? — A FIDE rating is public and checkable on ratings.fide.com. “FIDE-rated coaches” is a claim you can verify; a title without a name is not.

Question 2

2. What is the real group size? — “Small groups” means nothing until there is a number. Ask the maximum, not the average.

Question 3

3. Is there a free trial class? — One real class tells you more than any brochure. Never pay before your child has sat through a lesson.

Question 4

4. How will you see progress? — Ask what the parent receives: reports, homework, game reviews, or nothing after payment.

Question 5

5. What does the curriculum cover? — Openings, tactics, endgames and tournament preparation should be named, not implied.

Question 6

6. Are fees and schedules published? — If fees are shared only after a sales call, ask why. (We share ours on WhatsApp at +91 84015 33777 because the right format depends on the child’s age and level.)

Question 7

7. Does the schedule fit your family? — Confirm class days, times in your timezone, and the make-up policy for missed classes.
